Cold wind outside, central heating on inside and a few too many hot showers. By November, plenty of us notice the same thing: skin that feels tight after cleansing, looks dull and seems far more sensitive than usual.
That’s usually your skin barrier asking for help. This is the outer layer of your skin that keeps moisture in and irritants out. In winter, cold air, indoor heating and reduced natural oil production make it easier for water to escape, leaving skin dehydrated, rough and reactive.
It helps to know the difference between dry and dehydrated skin. Dry skin lacks oil and is a skin type. Dehydrated skin lacks water and can affect anyone, even if you’re oily or prone to breakouts. In fact, oily skin often struggles most in winter, because the instinct is to reach for stronger products, which strips the barrier even further.
At home, keep things simple. Use a gentle, non-foaming cleanser, a hydrating serum and a good moisturiser, and avoid very hot water. Go easy on exfoliating too, as overdoing it can thin the barrier. And yes, SPF every day, even in November.
In clinic, we can go much deeper. Our Signature Hydrofacial cleanses, exfoliates and floods the skin with hydration without irritation, which makes it a great winter reset. For longer lasting results, skin boosters such as Profhilo and Jalupro hydrate from within and encourage your own collagen production.
Not sure what your skin needs? Our OBSERV520x skin analysis shows us what’s happening beneath the surface, including hidden dehydration, so we can build a plan around you. If your barrier is struggling, we’ll always rebuild it first before stepping up to stronger treatments like peels or laser.
Winter doesn’t have to mean dull skin. A little professional support goes a long way.
